One of the world’s largest energy companies wanted to drill 1,000 wells across several years. Drilling such a large number of wells was made further complicated because some of the wells were on Indian tribal lands where it might take a long time to arrange for permits, while others were inaccessible during some months of the year. In fact, there were many non-linear constraints placed on wells.
We created a simulation solution to optimize the drilling schedule. The development of this simulation required the use of: SimLib, to capture the physics of the well drilling problem; EvoLib, to create the optimization algorithm; and GeoLib to create the mapping visualization.
By showing the optimum drilling schedule within the 3D simulation, our client found that they could more easily digest and communicate the optimum drilling schedule to key stakeholders. The value of an optimized drilling schedule are measured in the millions of dollars for our client.

Simudyne can enable your organisation to become Simulation Science proficient, so you reap the rewards that derive from the improved decision making that is the natural consequence of its adoption. Return on investment (ROI) ratios of 10:1 are minimum – ROI of 100:1 are common place.
Simudyne’s highly advanced simulation platform and petroleum market expertise have been married with IBM Cell Broadband Engine™ (Cell/ B.E.) multi-core technology — an innovative and powerful microprocessor architecture — to help speed up petroleum discovery and production.
Because the Simudyne Simulation Platform model now addresses real world defence, intelligence and homeland security issues in a properly reactive, fully informed and data rich third dimension, operations teams can realistically brief command groups on the effect of decisions and properly assess organisational, spatial and logistic imperatives.
